Dear All
We are offering two date options for this introductory session;
26 July 2023 7-8pm Charterhouse Centre, Blagdon BS40 7XR
27 September 2023 7-8pm Charterhouse Centre, Blagdon BS40 7XR
The session will also be a chance to meet other new parish councillors across the AONB and its setting. Whilst we are primarily offering the session to new councillors, we wish to extend the opportunity for training to established councillors, or even whole parish councils.
Clerks, if you think your parish council would like a session as a whole council, we would welcome the opportunity to come to a separate meeting in your parish. Please get in touch with Jo Cheung
If you haven’t booked your space on this session please do so this week. We will be making it available to a wider area as of next week.

A bespoke introductory training session for new parish councillors by the Mendip Hills AONB Service Landscape Planning Officer and team.
We will look at:
- Planning policy specific to AONBs as nationally designated landscapes
- Understanding the AONB designation
- What conserving and enhancing ‘natural beauty’ of the AONB means
- Why your role as a parish councillor is so important for the AONB
- Why enabling nature recovery is essential in tackling the ecological emergency, a key objective of the AONB Service
- The Nature Recovery Plan for the AONB and key aspects of it for your parish
