Cold Weather Alert Level 3 Dear The Community and Voluntary Sector, The current forecast is: Colder, winter weather is on its way as a spell of rain is moving southwards across the UK introducing cold, Arctic air to the south west. The first spell is for Monday Night into Tuesday, As the rain moves south it will turn wintry over high ground, and later in the night possibly to lower levels as well. Most areas won’t see any accumulations, however there is a possibility of locally seeing up to 1-2 cm of lying snow. Overnight temperatures are likely to fall below zero, allowing icy patches to form on any untreated roads, pavements or paths as the rain falls, and continuing for a short time on Tuesday morning after the rain and wintry precipitation clears. The second spell is Tuesday night into Wednesday night. A spell of rain and snow will spread in from the south west late on Tuesday evening, becoming predominantly snow overnight and into early hours of Wednesday as it spreads northwards across the region. Impacts are most likely for the South West region during Wednesday morning. Later on Wednesday, the snow will turn to rain in places and steadily clear eastwards. Icy patches on untreated surfaces may continue as temperatures fall into the evening. |
