Footpath Maintenance

Last year, Gary Filer: £20 per hour, 41 hours over the summer, £820 for the year. (£120 over assigned budget)

New increase in rates for Gary Filer are now £25 per hour (Would be £1000 per year for 40 hours, which would be £300 over the budget assigned for 22/23)

B&NES grant to be confirmed to support this work, was £680 for 21/22

Other options to consider:

Split tasks into regular inspection and light pruning which does not need machine equipment, and heavier duty machine tool strimming and cutting which can be specifically arranged by agreement.

Larger scale areas – Ramblers association – volunteers may help with larger scale projects, can be arranged with B&NES.

Larger scale areas – Land owners have a responsibility to keep footpaths clear and should be reminded to keep paths clear.

For comparison, Clutton PC footpath ranger rates for inspection and pruning would be £15 per hour. (current arrangement with Clutton PC is 60 hours per year, of which 10 to 20 hours is with machinery. The footpath ranger inspects, prunes and machine tool cuts, with fuel and tools provided by the PC)

For comparison, Temple Cloud PC, Village operatives inspect, prune and machine tool cutting as part of job role. From 1 to 4 hours per week throughout the year. Larger scale areas have support of ramblers association volunteers.
